Eric Engelmann, executive director of NewBoCo, was interviewed as the featured speaker at TechBrew AM, a networking event hosted by the Technology Association of Iowa on Tuesday, October 10, 2017.
Technology leaders in the Eastern Iowa Corridor gathered the morning of Tuesday, October 10, 2017, for TechBrew AM, a networking event organized by the Technology Association of Iowa (TAI) at the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance. Shuttleworth & Ingersoll was proud to sponsor the event and select Eric Engelmann, executive director of NewBoCo, as the featured speaker to be interviewed by Brian Waller, President of TAI.Bill Daly, attorney and vice president at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, described Engelmann as “a champion for the advancement of technology and new ideas,” adding that Engelmann is someone who knows how to make things happen. “There will be times when I’m learning about what Eric has recently accomplished, only to find out he’s already four steps down the road with the next big project,” said Daly.
Upon receiving CEO of the Year at the 2017 Technology Association of Iowa Prometheus Awards, Eric Engelmann kept his remarks brief: “Appreciate the award, we have a lot more to do.”
The interview focused on Engelmann’s path to success, including his time failing calculus as an engineering student at Iowa State, all the way through his recent transition to chairman of the board of Geonetric, the company he founded in 1999. Today, Engelmann leads the nonprofit The New Bohemian Innovation Collaborative (NewBoCo), which operates Iowa Startup Accelerator, DeltaV Code School, Corridor Angel Investors, and numerous other programs focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, and STEAM education. NewBoCo started with an agile mindset from the beginning, and its team of 19 operates without traditional hierarchy, supervisors or performance reviews, and has been recognized for non-profit excellence and community impact.As a testament to his leadership, Engelmann was named CEO of the Year by TAI at the 2017 Prometheus Awards. “The vision of NewBoCo is his; he imagines the best Cedar Rapids, best Corridor, best Iowa, best Midwest, and that is the trajectory he has set for the organization,” said Waller.
