“A Culture of Giving Back at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll” was published in the July 10 edition of the Corridor Business Journal (PDF).
Brian Bergstrom has served as president of the firm since the beginning of 2017. “We have a long history of teamwork and specialization, both of which are of ever increasing importance for strong client service. Our clients have full access to that specialization. We have grown to approximately 50 attorneys and plan to continue our growth. Our attorneys enjoy practicing together and use a collaborative approach to provide sophisticated and timely service in a cost-effective manner,” said Bergstrom. A Culture of Giving Back for Shuttleworth & Ingersoll AttorneysEvery attorney at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll is involved as a volunteer to one or more local organization in the Corridor. This is the culture established by chairman of the firm’s board of directors, Gary Streit, who leads by example with his involvement in numerous local, regional, and national organizations. “When a Shuttleworth & Ingersoll lawyer has an opportunity to be involved as a volunteer on a community board, it helps them gain perspective. Being actively engaged with a cause you care about helps you grow as a person. You’re more well-rounded; you really understand what life is about,” said Streit. The Shuttleworth & Ingersoll attorneys also use their professional services to help those in need with pro bono services. In 2016, the firm collectively contributed more than 1,000 hours to the Volunteer Lawyers Project, an initiative of the nonprofit organization Iowa Legal Aid. These volunteer services are meant to improve the lives of Iowans who cannot afford help with legal issues. Similarly, 26 Shuttleworth attorneys were named to the Iowa’s Pro Bono Honor Roll in 2016, a list published by the Iowa State Bar Association. In Linn County, Shuttleworth attorneys account for one-third of all attorneys added to the list, more than double that of any other law firm. Four attorneys exceeded the aspirational standard set by the Iowa State Bar of 50 or more pro bono hours in 2016.This culture of individual volunteerism at Shuttleworth extends to the firm level in the form of charitable giving. One example includes the firm’s longstanding support of St. Luke’s Hospital, as the firm was recently honored with the St. Luke’s Foundation Founder’s Award. St. Luke’s Foundation created this award in 1977 to specifically recognize individual or organizations that have had a significant impact on healthcare in this community. “Shuttleworth has been an integral part of St. Luke’s since way before I got here. They were a huge part of our story then, and they are now,” said Ted Townsend, President & CEO of St. Luke’s Hospital. Shuttleworth has enabled the successes of many projects at St. Luke’s, each one bringing a more advanced level of patient care. Highlights of a few projects at St. Luke’s supported by Shuttleworth & Ingersoll include St. Luke’s first robot, an inpatient hospice unit, a lifeguard air ambulance, the Cook Cancer Wellness Program, and the Child Protection Center. Operationally, the firm has experienced continued success under the leadership of Brian Bergstrom, president of the firm since the beginning of 2017. Past president Gary Streit serves as chairman of the board, a new position for the firm.About Shuttleworth & IngersollShuttleworth & Ingersoll, P.L.C. is a multi-specialty law firm based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with clients throughout the Midwest and around the world.
