Joseph M. Miller Presents at Iowa Association of Rural Health Clinics 2019 Annual Conference

Miller, associate attorney at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, presented a session on the topic of HIPAA, security, and other rural health legal considerations at the Iowa Association of Rural Health Clinics 2019 Annual Conference on May 8, 2019, in Des Moines, Iowa.Key points outlined in Joseph’s presentation include important considerations to understanding HIPAA and the impact and protections associated with the law; protected health information (PHI) and the use of patient information; training staff on interacting with patients on the web and social media; the state of enforcement and investigations of current laws; and an overview of compliance programs for providers.One specific example discussed in Joseph’s presentation was the decision made by Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, to fire a nurse at after she posted information on social media about a case of measles in the city.About Joseph MillerJoseph represents companies and individuals in matters relating to business and healthcare. Joseph draws on his experience as a federal judicial clerk, in-house counsel, and an attorney at a large law firm in Phoenix, Arizona, to provide enduring and practical solutions to his clients.
