Global Ties Iowa Visits S&I

Shuttleworth & Ingersoll had the honor of meeting with the Global Ties Iowa U.S Judicial System program over the lunch hour at the Cedar Rapids office. This program includes leaders from around the world who are invited to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program that is arranged by the Meridian International Center.

 

Some of the project objectives the leaders hoped to accomplish during their visit are:

• Examining the underlying principles of the U.S. judicial and legal systems and their basis in the Constitution and the rule of law;

• Deepen the understanding of federal and state judicial systems for both criminal and civil matters under the U.S. model of federalism;

• Demonstrate the workings of an independent judiciary and promote the advancement of fair, transparent, accessible, and independent judiciaries around the world;

• Observe trials, other court procedures, and court administration at the federal, state, and local levels;

• Study the interaction of the legal system between law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and courts; and

• Explore measures to protect victims.

 

Guests included Mr. Gerti ZELA, representing Albania, as the director of the Standing Committees Support Unit, in the High Prosecutorial Council. Mr. Lucas BELLO, from Argentina, the Chamber Secretary of the Economic Criminal Oral Court in Argentina and city Buenos Aires. Representing Ecuador, Ms. Gladys Jovanna GARZON ALMEDIA, the Deputy Director of International Judicial Cooperation at Ecuador’s National Court of Justice. Ms. Leah KABARIA, representing Kenya, as the Principal Magistrate, The Kenyan Judiciary. Mr. Issam KHOURY, from Lebanon, the Owner/Managing Director/Senior Lawyer/Attorney at Law at Issam F. El-Khoury Law Office. Ms. Hyun Mi JUNG, representing Republic of Korea, Attorney at Kim & Change Law Firm. Representing the Republic of North Macedonia, Mr. Elvin VELI as the Public Prosecutor at the Chief Public Prosecution Office. Ms. Veronika KREIDENKOVA, representing Ukraine, head at Public Integrity Council.
